Our after-school choral program offers a positive and healing music experience for children that draws on the rich tradition of classical and choral singing with instruction inspired by the Kodaly and Orff methods of teaching.
The voice is your first instrument. We truly believe that singing is a joyful and powerful activity that can calm and nourish children, as well as help them develop the listening skills and higher thinking skills necessary for academic excellence.
This series will focus on foundational concepts of music making including: fine-tuned listening, melody, pitch, relative pitch, healthy vocal practice, musicianship. We will study choral works from the classical canon and the folk tradition.
Each 1.15 minute drop-off session will include:
5 mins. movement & body warm up
10 mins. voice warm up & vocalization with a focus on resonance techniques and healthy vocal practice
40 mins. rehearsal of our concert repetoire
- 20 mins. games and theory
At the close of our 10- class series, we will invite all participants to perform in an evening concert at our school. The concert will include a musical presentation by our music director Anna Park, and then launch into a performance of the choral songs that the children have prepared. We will also provide light snacks and a beautiful ambiance to make this a magical experience for all.
